HISTORY: Deidre Emerson was born in Tempest Key, FL, to an unwed mother and father who had parted ways long before her birth. Her mother tried to cope with raising a child on her own but just couldn't handle it, both financially- and responsibility-wise, and ended up dropping Deidre off at an orphanage when she was just a few months old.

Shortly after that, she was adopted by Mary and Henry Emerson, a young couple who had been trying to conceive a child for quite some time but to no avail. They adopted her and named her Deidre, raising her as their own and caring for her the best they could. Mary was a nurse and Henry taught at a local school so while they didn't have the highest paying jobs in the city they did alright and provided for their daughter as best they could.

Deidre had a mostly normal upbringing from that point on. Being an only child she grew a little self centered, which has mostly worn off as she got older but still rears its ugly head from time to time. Her parents gave her all that they could but she was far from spoiled, at least in the financial sense. Due to her mother's schedule of working night shifts, she saw her around a lot more in the day time than her father and as such foud herself a little closer to her than to her dad. She wanted to follow in her mom's footsteps which was what eventually lead to her entering the nursing profession.

Growing up, Dee had a lot of friends and enjoyed hanging out with them whenever she could. Often she would have friends over to help keep her company when her mother would be working and her father would be busy planning his lessons for the next day. It was much more fun for them to spend time being less supervised at her house than with the majority of her friends whose parents would both be home in the evenings and didn't let them get away with as much. Her parents weren't careless enough to allow her to have a bunch of boys spend all that time with their only daughter and mainly it was her female friends that would take advantage of the opportunity. When she grew older and discovered that she was in fact attracted to women Deidre would often wonder if that had anything to do with her preferences, though she really didn't know.

When she wasn't old enough to have friends over she spent a lot of time reading and studying things that interested her, a trait that was wholly encouraged by both of her parents given their own backgrounds. As she got older the studying part of the equation became less and less but Deidre never did lose her love of reading. She has no problems staying at home and losing herself in a good book if there's no one else around to hang out with or nothing else to do.

When she reached university age she moved out to stay in residence while getting her education, wanting to take on an air of independence and get out from under her parents for a change, even if she was choosing to follow in her mother's footsteps careerwise.

PERSONALITY: Deidre has a fierce independent streak, perhaps brought on by her upbringing as a single child. She likes to think that she can get by on her own without anybody but knows that's not really true, even if she'd never admit it. It did not go unnoticed to her during her childhood that her mother was the chief breadwinner of the family and she strongly believes that women are at least the equals of men, if not better (which they probably are).

She's friendly for the most part, though it does take her awhile to warm up to new people before she can feel free to speak openly around them and the like. This doesn't take all that long but in general the longer she's known you then the more comfortable and open she'll be around you. When she's around people she doesn't know all that well she can come off a tad brusque, though she seldom means to be rude, it's just how she is.

LIKES: Doing things on her own, reading, working in the healthcare profession.
DISLIKES: Forced social interaction, bossy people, being told what to do, shallow people.
